Innovative and Proven Materials

The biocompatible high-performance polymer (BioHPP) used in XircOn was originally developed in the late 1970s for the U.S. aerospace industry and has been used extensively in orthopedic surgery. It was designed for its stability and potential in high-load applications.

FAQ

Will I get my teeth in one day?

Implant technology advances in use today allow us to give our patients implants with fixed temporary teeth the day of the surgery or the day after. In most cases, it is no longer necessary to wait months to have fixed teeth that allow you to chew, look good and talk normally. Once your implants have fully healed, (typically 4-6 months) you will be fitted with a custom permanent bridge. However, not all patients are candidates for this technique. Therefore, each patient needs to be carefully evaluated to determine whether they are a good candidate for same-day restoration.

How much downtime can be expected?

Generally speaking, patients are ready to resume activities the day after the surgery. Most patients can expect to be back to normal activity within 4-5 days after the surgery. Every patient is different, and every case is different, though. Some may take less time; some may take more.

Is there financing available?

Financing is available at most dental offices that offer XircOn.

How many appointments are required?

Implants need 4-6 months to heal before the final XircOn bridge can be started. The final bridge requires 3-4 visits within a 2-month span to be completed. So, typically, it takes around 6-8 months from start to finish. But during this time, we always make sure you are wearing a very comfortable, beautiful temporary bridge until the final XircOn bridge is ready.

What materials are used in making my bridge?

Xircon is made from a very strong biocompatible high-performance polymer at the base, which has been used for a long time to fabricate medical prostheses in other parts of the body (for knee replacements, hip replacements, spinal fusions), so it has a very long record of durability and strength. Then the teeth are made out of high-end multiple layer zirconia, which is one of the hardest materials on earth, so you can confidently chew on regular foods without any fear of breakage.

How long will my bridge last?

XircOn is designed to last a lifetime. The built-in flexure of XircOn makes it extremely resistant to fracture and chipping. XircOn has a wear resistance to chewing and grinding equal to our natural teeth’s enamel.

What happens if my bridge breaks?

Given the fact that XircOn is designed to be serviceable, repairs are fairly simple. In the rare occasion that your XircOn bridge were to be damaged for any reason, only the damaged portion of the bridge needs to be repaired or replaced, which can potentially be done the same day in office. Whenever the repair needs to be done overnight, a temporary bridge can be placed while the repair is performed. Since only a small part of the bridge needs to be serviced, the cost of the repair is minimal compared to the cost of replacing a whole bridge, as is the case with monolithic zirconia. This saves you stress, time and money. Also, it gives you the peace of mind that you will not have to replace the whole bridge in the future.

How long has this material been used by the doctor or in the U.S.?

As a hybrid, XircOn is fabricated from two main components: biocompatible high-performance polymer and multilayered zirconia. The biocompatible high-performance polymer used in XircOn was originally developed in the late 1970s by the U.S. aerospace industry because of its properties of stability and thus its potential for high-load applications. In the late 1990s, a highly pure and implantable grade polymer was commercialized and subsequently embraced by the medical device industry. Since then, the use of this medical-grade polymer has grown exponentially. Many medical device manufacturers now use this polymer as a way to improve the biocompatibility of load-bearing implants. XircOn has been successfully using this polymer for many years now. The multiple layered zirconia used in XircOn has been the golden standard for dental restorations for decades and has a proven track record when it comes to durability, strength and beauty.

How much time until I get my final bridge(s)?

Implants need 4-6 months to heal before the final XircOn bridge can be started. The final bridge needs 3-4 visits within a 2-month span to be completed. So, typically, it takes around 6-8 months from start to finish. But during this time, we always make sure that you are wearing a very comfortable, beautiful temporary bridge until the final XircOn bridge is ready.

What's the timeline of the procedure?

Every case is different, the two main factors that can lengthen the time it takes to finish the procedure are healing time and level of customization. Implants take 4-6 months, on average, to heal, so people with certain medical conditions or who take certain medications may take longer to heal. This is the part where your body is in control. Certainly, following all the postoperative instructions given by your doctor can help speed up healing time. As far as customization, the more changes are made to the design of the case, the longer it will take. You and your doctor may quickly find a design that is cosmetically pleasing to you and  functional, which means your case will be finished quickly. Sometimes, you have to work together through a design process, though, which takes a few iterations to get just right. This could make the timeline for your restoration longer. Either way, this is time well spent!
